MOUNT VERNON — Main Street Mount Vernon (MSMV) is partnering with Central Ohio Technical College, Kenyon College, Knox County Career Center, and Mount Vernon Nazarene University to host September’s First Friday, Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, from 6-9 p.m., in downtown Mount Vernon.

With special guest The Shuman Band on the main stage, MSMV welcomes the popular classic car cruise-in around Public Square.

As a part of Education Night, area residents are invited to join Kenyon College, Knox Labs Inc., and SPI for a hands-on experience in a mobile maker space. The Cleveland-based Fab Foundation is teaming up with Kenyon College, Knox Labs and SPI to host fun, family-friendly activities on a mobile fab lab. Ages K-12 can explore the fun of science involving the use of laser cutters, a vinyl cutter, a CNC router and 3D printers.
The mobile fab lab will be open for free exploration from 5:30-8:30 p.m in the parking lot of the Kenyon College Wright Center, 400 S. Main St., Mount Vernon. SPI will offer additional hands-on activities alongside the mobile fab lab and will be open for play indoors as well.
The Mount Vernon Nazarene University Hunter Hall Clinic for Communication Sciences and Disorders will hold an open house event from 5-8:30 p.m. at 221 S. Main St., Mount Vernon, which will include tours of the facility, free screenings by students and faculty, and refreshments.

There are several food concessions that will offer ice cream and desserts in addition to sandwiches and other delights. Flapper’s Bar & Grille along with Herald’s Appliances & Electronics will offer a friendly game of cornhole for any takers that, along with our many exhibitors, will fill Public Square with something for everyone.

On South Main Street local balloon artist Rex Naylor will offer family-friendly entertainment, sponsored by Paragraphs Bookstore and SPI. Also on the South Stage Rebecca Abbott will perform, sponsored by VerMac Industries.
