MOUNT VERNON — Main Street Mount Vernon (MSMV) is partnering with Griffin Insurance to host May’s First Friday, Friday, May 5, 2017, from 6-9 p.m., in downtown Mount Vernon.
From 6-8 p.m., community members are invited to visit the Wright Center, Kenyon College's new location at 400 S. Main St. Inside the Wright Center visitors will find a state-of-the-art film center and community hub, featuring the new home for SPI, where Science and Play Intersect; Kenyon's Office for Community Partnerships, and Film Studies Program.
This community open house will feature tours of all three floors of the renovated warehouse; student displays including community-based projects in Art, Religious Studies, English and Science; free hands-on play experiences at SPI; a live broadcast from 93.7 The Super Q along with First Friday games with prizes; free pizza and ice cream treats.
Local band Katty Whomp-Us will be featured on the main stage, sponsored by Griffin Insurance. Sarah Goslee Reed will perform at the south stage, sponsored by Ver-Mac Industries.
There will be a number of family-friendly activities, including balloon sculptor Rex Naylor, sponsored by Paragraphs Bookstore; and SPI. Cornhole will be sponsored by Flapper’s Bar & Grille along with Herald’s Appliances & Electronics. Harvest @ The Woodward will be hosting a local foods market, and downtown art galleries will be open.
Donley Ford Lincoln of Mount Vernon will be sponsoring the Classic Car Cruise-in. The registration table will be located on Public Square, and there is no fee to register. Goody bags will be given to the first 25 registrants, and door prizes will be available.
Food will be provided at the event by Thomas Concessions, 8 Sisters Bakery, Athens Greek Restaurant, and Whit’s Frozen Custard.
WNZR’s “Big Blue” will be near Public Square where visitors can stop by and register to win a special “Clean Up, Dress Up and Checkup” prize basket for the family featuring an entire house cleaning, an eye exam, gifts, and more.

Traffic will be closed one block north of Public Square, around the Square and on South Main Street down to the Wright Center starting at 4:30 p.m. The rain location for the band is the CA&C Depot, 501 S.
