Law enforcement sent out the following announcement just after 11 a.m. Wednesday:

Knox Alerts: A possibly armed black male gray shirt was fleeing police on foot in the north end of Mount Vernon. Residents should stay inside with doors locked.

MVPD Captain Scott McKnight told KnoxPages.com that officers were dispatched around 10:30 this morning on a report of a stolen vehicle at a business on N. Sandusky Street. The owner of the vehicle said he has a concealed carry permit and a .38 revolver was inside the vehicle. Officers located the vehicle in the Meadow Ridge apartments area on Follin Ave at 10:54 a.m. A call was received by the MVPD that the subject from the vehicle had run off into the woods near Dan Emmett School.  Police, KCSO, Ohio Highway Patrol officers and the Danville K-9 unit are all searching for this suspect who is considered armed and dangerous since the firearm is no longer in the stolen vehicle.

A perimeter has been set up in the area while officers continue to search for the suspect.

Capt. McKnight says there may be an arrest warrant out for this suspect.
