MOUNT VERNON - MVPD Chief Roger Monroe offered tips to residents during Monday night's council meeting to ward off burglars. Among his suggestions is that residents lock their doors, even when they are home.

Last week, a subject who was trying to elude MVPD ran into three different homes on the east side. None of those homes were locked, making entry easy.

Other suggestions offered by Chief Monroe include:

  • Install curtains so would-be burglars can't look in to see what they might want to steal
  • Don't leave boxes for recently purchased big ticket items like TV's in front of your home on trash pick up day. Cut up the boxes and recycle or place in a trash bag.
  • Put up a home security sign, even if you don't have the service. That just might be a deterrent.
  • If you will be away from your home on vacation, schedule a home check with the MVPD by calling 740-397-2222
