MOUNT VERNON - All the candidates for county wide offices are running unopposed on November 3rd. However, voters will decide contested mayoral races in Mount Vernon, Danville, Fredericktown and Gambier.

Incumbent Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis (D) , who has held the office for two decades, is running against political newcomer Matt Starr (R). If a recent, unscientific KnoxPages.com online poll, is accurate - it will be a close race. The poll was taken August 24-29, 2015 by 75 readers. The question: "If the election were held today who would you vote for in the race for Mayor of Mount Vernon?" 53% answered Starr, 47% for Mavis.

In Danville, incumbent mayor Bob Dile is being challenged by Danny Slone. In Gambier, three candidates vying for the mayor's office are Betsy Heer, Liz Forman and Kachen Kimmel. And in Fredericktown the mayor's race features Dean Grogg versus Jerry Day.

Numerous village and township issues will be on the ballot as well. For the complete list as provided by the Knox County Board of Elections click here.

Statewide, voters will decide three constitutional amendments:

  • Issue 1 - creates a bipartisan public process for drawing legislative districts
  • Issue 2 - the anti-monopoly amendment which protects the initiative process from being used for personal economic benefit
  • Issue 3 - Grants a monopoly for the commercial production and sale of marijuana for recreational and medicinal purposes. If passed 1,100 locations statewide would be permitted to offer recreational marijuana for sale.

In order to vote, you need to be registered with your county board of elections. In Knox County, the BOE is located at 117 E. High St, Suite 210 in Mount Vernon or call 740-393-6716.
