NEWARK - The Licking County Sheriff’s Office says charges are expected to be filed against a student accused of making a bomb threat to Newton Elementary School on Monday.

According to 10tv.com police say a suspicious file was discovered at the school that appeared on several desktops throughout the North Fork Local School District. The file name read, “The school will die I will bring a boom [sic] and kill blacks”.

Licking County Sheriff’s detectives and the school’s I.T. department were able to trace the threat to the 11-year-old student. The sixth grader later admitted to authorities that he wrote the threat and was subsequently taken into custody late Monday.

The case has been forwarded to the Licking County Prosecutor’s Office. Charges are expected to be filed.

The Sheriff’s Office says the threat is not connected to a threat last week to Utica High School that targeted interracial couples. Those letters prompted the school to cancel the football team’s homecoming game and delay the homecoming dance. Utica High canceled classes last Friday.

Meanwhile, the student remains suspended from Newton Elementary and further disciplinary action is forthcoming.
