MOUNT VERNON — The fifth annual Turkey Trot 5K run/walk to benefit Food For The Hungry will take place on Thanksgiving day, Thursday, November 26. Hosting the event will be WeRunMV. The run will begin and end at the entrance of the Chapel on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Sign-in starts at 8 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m.
This free event is designed for runners and walkers of all ages and is open to everyone. The goal is participation. Though there is no charge to participate in the Turkey Trot, Food For The Hungry volunteers will collect non-perishable food items and cash donations that will benefit the food pantries of The Salvation Army and Interchurch Social Services.
Running or walking together on Thanksgiving morning has become an annual tradition in Mount Vernon. What better way to count your blessings than to participate in the Turkey Trot with friends and give to others! Plus, this will help you make room for all the turkey and other great food you are going to eat later in the day. It should be noted that for every $1 we raise, our community partner agencies can purchase $10 worth of food from the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. It typically takes around $64 to feed a family of 4 for 3 days. MOFB can do that for $8.
Friends and family members are encouraged to walk/run in groups.
