MOUNT VERNON -- On Saturday, October 26th, the Mount Vernon Police Department held a Prescription drug take back day. Statistics released by Acting Chief George Hartz show that 85 pounds of pills were collected. The event coincided with a national prescription drug take back day.
MVPD is part of the METRICH Enforement Unit and many county and city law enforcement agencies throughout Ohio participated in the event. METRICH says a total of 766 pounds of medication were collected. Community participation and commitment by Chiefs and Sheriffs is always the key to the event's success.
Residents who missed the opportunity to drop off unused, expired or unwanted prescritption medication Saturday can still dispose of them anytime at a drop box in the lobby of the MVPD or at the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
