MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Cantata Choir, under the direction of Lynn Jurkowitz, presents “Who is This King?”, an Easter cantata by Joseph Martin. Featuring over 60 vocalists from Knox County and beyond, this musical event chronicles the last days of Jesus’ life, His crucifixion and His resurrection.
Jessica Overholt will provide piano accompaniment for the cantata. Other soloists include Jacob Lehman, Mickey Parsons, Alisha Butts, Denny Wiegman, and Keven Lamb.
Roger Hartwell, David Wells and Sarah Lord will perform as special guests. Hartwell is a Chesterville native who has sung with many male and mixed quartets, church festival choirs throughout the U.S. and as the Knox County Cantata Choir. For the past 10 years, he has served in music ministry at the First Presbyterian Church in Fredericktown. He lives on his family farm with his wife, Teri. They have two children, Mitchell and Meredith.
Jazz trumpeter David Wells is a concert promoter as well as founder and CEO of the Chocolate Jazz Foundation Inc. He has a nationally syndicated radio show called “Chocolate Jazz Radio.” He has released 14 CDs and was on the entry ballot to become a nominee for “Best Pop Instrumental Album” at the 2009 Grammy Awards with his CD “Friday Afternoon.” Wells lives in Nashville, TN, with his wife and two children.
A sophomore honor student at Mount Vernon High School, Sarah Lord plays the viola in the high school orchestra. She is the daughter of Stephanie Lord.
Performances will be Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the Memorial Theater, 112 E. High St., Mount Vernon. Tickets are $5 and are available from any choir member, at the door or online at www.eventbrite.com.
