MOUNT VERNON - The Knox County Fair is back again this year and has a few upgrades and new attractions.
Fair board member Jim Shipley told KnoxPages.com, “We are probably the only fair in the State of Ohio that has free rides and free admission all day for anybody,” he said. “That’s Saturday, the first day.”
Shipley says something else that is new at the fair this year is Monday through Saturday, admission is free until noon.
“We’re hoping to get more people to the fairgrounds if we can,” Shipley said. He said there will be no big name entertainment on Friday night. “Too expensive,” Shipley said. “A lot of the fairs are quitting it.”
Shipley said parking is free and tickets are the same as last year, $7 to get in or $25 for a season pass.
Shipley also says visitors will see a brush pull. "It’s a truck and tractor pull, but local people do it,” Shipley said. “We also have monster trucks on Thursday, we have a guy from New York bringing four trucks for the kids to get on and hour or two before the show.”
Shipley says another upgrade to the fair is there will be a double tractor instead of a single tractor pull.
As far as the junior fair, Shipley said the livestock barns are being filled to capacity. “We’re the largest junior fair per capita in Ohio,” he said.
Shipley hopes for a good turn-out this year. “Just come to the fair and enjoy yourself,” he said.
