MOUNT VERNON - Expanded hours are in place this week for early voting at the Knox County Board of Elections. Through Friday the Board of Elections Office will be open from 8:00am – 5:00pm for Absentee/Provisional Voting. Weekend hours have also been scheduled:
Saturday, May 2nd - 8:00am-12:00pm
Sunday, May 3rd- 1:00pm-5:00pm
Monday, May 4th- 8:00am-2:00pm the office will be open for Absentee/Provisional Voting
May 5th, Election Day, polls will be open from 6:30am – 7:30pm for Voting
In Mount Vernon, Republicans will vote next Tuesday for either Mike Hillier or Matt Starr as their party's candidate to oppose incumbent
Democratic Mayor Dick Mavis in November. The Third Ward City Council race features two Republicans - incumbent Nancy Vail and Debbie McLarnan.
Mount Vernon voters will also be asked to approve a renewal of a 4.86 mill tax levy for the benefit of the City School District.
Around the county, Danville voters are being asked to approve an additional 0.5 percent income tax to provide for and maintain police vehicles, communications, and buildings.
Voters in the North Fork Local School District will be asked to approve a 1% tax levy on earned income. The district is located in Licking and Knox Counties.
Several townships will have road levies on the ballot as well.
