MOUNT VERNON - Many in Knox County look forward to this coming week all year - Fair week. The 2015 fair begins tonight at 6 p.m and continues until August 1st. This year's event will feature many of the traditions fairgoers have enjoyed year after year, decade after decade including fair food, Junior Fair, harness racing and rides.

Different this year will be the lack of any exhibitions involving poultry. The Ohio Department of Agriculture placed a ban on such exhibitions in June. The move was designed to protect Ohio's $2.3 billion poultry industry from the avian flu that has so negatively impacted other poultry-producing states.  4-H ers who had poultry projects have the option of making a poster to display at the fair.

Highlights of this year's fair at the grandstand include harness racing on Saturday and Tuesday. The truck and tractor pull is Sunday. The demolition derby and Figure 8 school bus & truck racing are set for Monday. Wednesday it's the rough truck competition. Thursday, fairgoers will enjoy moto cross. And Friday fairgoers will hear country music from the Swon Brothers who have performed on NBC's The Voice.

Thursday it's Junior Fair sale day when 4-H animals are purchased by community members.

Admission to the fair is as follows:

Saturday, 7/25 - free admission and free rides starting at 6 p.m.

Sunday-Thursday and Sat. Aug 1 - Adults $7, children 8 and under free.

Thursday - Veterans admitted free until 5 p.m. Only Drivers license with veteran endorsement permitted.

Friday - $10.

Seniors with Golden Buckeye Card - $5 until 5:00 p.m.

The Knox County Veterans Service Office invites all female veterans to attend the fair on Wednesday and be recognized prior to the rough truck competition. Female vets will receive free admission from the KCVSO office. Call 740-393-6742 for details.
