MOUNT VERNON – The 2015 Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival announces the 10th annual Knox Idol competition. This friendly singing contest showcases some of the area’s leading vocal talent, and allows the public to determine the top musical performers in Knox County. Performers will sing their hearts out at a chance to win Knox Idol in one of two categories: Youth (ages 14 to 18) and Young Adult (ages 19 to 29). This year’s Young Adult first place receives a $1,000 cash prize, second place $100. The Youth first place award is $200, and second place $50.

Knox Idol will once again be split into two nights. The Semi-Final round will take place at the 2015 Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival at 7:30 pm on Thursday evening, August 13 on the First-Knox South Stage. The Final round of the Knox Idol competition will take place at 9:00 pm on Friday, August 14 on the First-Knox Main Stage. Contestants will perform before a live audience during both rounds of the competition. The audience will determine the fate of each contestant during each round of the finals. Ballot sets will be available for purchase for those wishing to vote for a $1 donation. All proceeds collected during Knox Idol will be donated to the Woodward Opera House restoration project.

Auditions for Knox Idol hopefuls were held July 29th at ThePlace@TheWoodward. Each contestant performed a piece of their choice before a panel of qualified judges, who selected the aspiring musical performers who will compete in the final rounds of the Knox Idol competition during the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival.

Youth contestants are Kayleigh Stelzer, Lauren Keaton, and Lauren Cagle. Contestants in the Young Adult category are Ashley Burke, Kayleigh Loveland, Leah Magabe, Allegra Sherman, and Megan Zaborski.

In addition to Knox Idol, highlights of this year’s Festival will include performances by Crystal Gayle, T. G. Sheppard, Phil Dirt & The Dozers, a wide variety of local musicians and performers (including the Kokosing River Surf Club, Safire Sun, Caffiends, and Chautauqua Beatles), fiddle, banjo, and flat-pick guitar contests, a cheer competition, a flower show, a quilt show, fine arts, crafts, homemades, a motorcycle show, a Sunday pancake breakfast, and the annual antique & classic car show, all with a wide variety of delicious foods.

The 2015 Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival runs August 13-16, 2015 in Downtown Mount Vernon with various activities each day. This year’s Festival is made possible through the contributions of Ariel, First-Knox National Bank, and Time Warner Cable.
