MOUNT VERNON - This past week saw the arrest of longtime MVPD Detective Matt Dailey by the FBI on drug charges. Despite that, Chief Roger Monroe says his department is looking forward. Detectives Beth Marti and J.T. DeChant were promoted on Friday.  Overall, the department is down about six officers right now but hiring efforts are ongoing. And Monroe says officers can better do their jobs with help from the public in fighting crime. Monroe encourages residents to call the police if they suspect illegal activity.

Monroe said, "I would rather check out a hundred complants that turn out to be nothing than not check out the one that actually is something because somebody didn't call. Call the police, that's what we do."

The number to reach MVPD is 740-397-2222. The Detective Bureau is 740-393-9536. In the event of a life- threatening emergency call 911.
