MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Nazarene University will launch a summer academic program for high school students in 2016. Dr. Brett Wiley will be leading the two-week course titled, “Star Wars, Silentó, and the Super Bowl: Engaging Popular Culture.”

The course is scheduled for July 17-30 and will allow high school students to earn college credit for "Public Speaking (COM1023)" by discussing, writing, and presenting on popular culture.

MVNU’s goal for this summer academic program is to show that MVNU is strong academically and offers serious academic options for higher achieving high school students. Few of MVNU’s direct competitors offer a similar program.

To apply, high school students must have completed their sophomore year, be 15 years of age or older, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The course fee is $800 and includes three transferable college credits in public speaking, room and board, and meals. There are 30 spots available.
